Meghan Markle Says Dog Guy Had ‘a Lot of Stories to Tell’ After Journeys to Canada and U.K.

The Duchess of Sussex announced in early 2025 that her rescued beagle died, but he plays a part in her new Netflix show

Meghan Markle’s beloved rescue beagle Guy appears in her new Netflix show, shortly after the Duchess of Sussex announced his death.

On Jan. 7, Meghan, 43, shared a tribute video to her new Instagram about her dog, writing in part, “I have cried too many tears to count — the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.”

In With Love, Meghan — which landed on the streaming service on March 4 — Guy is shown on camera in episode five as the beagle is sleeping by her in his bed.

“Guy’s always there — he’s my shadow,” Meghan said in the clip. “He’s been there with me in Toronto, in the U.K., back in Canada and California.”

“Guy has a lot of stories to tell,” Meghan added.

Elsewhere in the series, Meghan made her famous dog biscuits — one of the products she sent out last year ahead of her lifestyle brand’s launch — and gave Guy one. Meghan also insinuated that Guy liked bacon in an earlier episode, saying that her bacon “brings my husband and three dogs to the kitchen — not my perfume.”

She also dedicated the series to her dog. “In loving memory of Guy,” reads a tribute at the end of the eighth episode.

Meghan adopted Guy while living in Canada and filming Suits in 2015, the year before she met Prince Harry. Harry, 40, and their kids, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, all made cameos in the Jan. 7 tribute video to Guy, who played a part in Harry’s 2017 proposal to Meghan and was at her feet on their wedding day as she got her hair and makeup done.

“He was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort,” Meghan wrote in her tribute post. She added, “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”

Referring to With Love, Meghan, she continued in her Jan. 7 post, “Because many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too.”
