Crystal Jackson’s daughter and two younger children all received medical attention, according to local school officials
A Florida mom died and her kids were injured after their minivan collided with a dump truck.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said that on Wednesday, March 12, the dump truck was traveling west on West Homosassa Trail when it attempted to make a left turn and then crossed paths with a Dodge minivan, according to NBC affiliate WFLA-TV, CBS affiliate WTSP and FOX affiliate WTVT.
A 50-year-old Homosassa woman was driving the minivan when the crash occurred, according to the outlets. Her three children, a 16-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, were also inside the vehicle.
The mom, who was identified by authorities and Lecanto High School as Crystal Jackson, died at the scene of the crash.
Authorities said that all three of the kids involved in the crash sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to WTVT.
According to a statement from school officials, Jackson was a “beloved” social studies teacher at Lecanto Middle School and had previously worked at the high school as a paraprofessional.
Her eldest daughter, a junior at the school, was in the car at the time as were Jackson’s two younger children, according to the school. All three received medical care.
“During this difficult time, we task t[h]e Panther Nation to come together in support, keeping Crystal’s family in our thoughts and prayers,” school officials said in the statement. “If anyone needs support or guidance in processing this loss, please reach out to the LHS guidance department — we are here for you.”
The 34-year-old Ocala man driving the dump truck was not injured in the crash, according to WTVT and WFLA.
