A woman is devastated because her father has decided to go on a fishing trip instead of attending her wedding.
The bride-to-be expressed her heartbreak in a recent post on Reddit’s “Wedding Planning” forum. She shared that her mother died last year, and even though her father “is a trash dad and always has been,” she was depending on his support on her big day as “the only parent” she has left.
Earlier this week, the bride noticed that her father and stepmother “never RSVPd” to her wedding, despite having sent them her save-the-date “a year ago.” So, she texted the couple a reminder to RSVP.
“She told me they cannot attend because ‘scheduling issues,’ ” the bride wrote.

The bride was baffled at what could be more important than her wedding.
“I asked her, what specifically will keep them from attending,” she said. “She let me know he has chosen to prioritize a fishing tournament over my wedding.”
Adding salt to the wound, the bride discovered that the fishing tournament is an entire week after her wedding. Her father could easily make it to both events, but is choosing to go to the tournament “early.”
“This isn’t SURPRISING, but it’s still just totally devastating to be reminded on this most important day that my dad just couldn’t give less of a s— about me,” the Redditor shared, adding, “Would be nice if he could just show the f— up for his daughter’s wedding.”
Not only is this “devastating” but it’s also embarrassing for the bride because she knows that her future in-laws and wedding guests “will want to meet him and will ask where he is,” and she won’t have a reasonable excuse to give them.
“It’s so humiliating,” she said. “…Just feeling so rejected and unloved which is what he has always made me feel.”

Her sister was just as upset, and called her “crying she was so angry.”
“We both were like, ‘Why does it still hurt when he disappoints us?’ Because it’s been 30 plus years of disappointment but it does still hurt,” the bride noted in a comment. “I’m pretty good at keeping my expectations rock bottom for him but totally skipping a milestone life event feels like a new low. My siblings all agreed that the weekend will be easier without him there.”
Fellow Reddit users in the comments section were sympathetic toward the bride, and offered words of encouragement.
“Kick him to the curb. Continue to surround yourself with people who love you,” one person commented, with another individual writing, “Damn, what a loser. Congrats on not turning out like him. I had some family members that boycotted the wedding, and I realized how much happier I was without them there.”
Some Reddit users suggested that the bride “cut” her father out of her life to avoid future disappointment.
